Yarn:  Small amounts of your choice worsted weight, size 4 yarn.

Hook:  E (4 mm) hook

Stitch Key

Ch:  Chain

Hdc:  Half Double Crochet 

Mr:  Magic Ring

Sc:  Single Crochet 

Sl st:  Slip Stitch 

Begin

Make a Mr, Ch 1,

8 Sc in mr, 

Ch 7, Hdc in 3rd ch and next 4 chs, Sl st in next Sc in mr, Sl st in next sc

*Ch 4, Hdc in 3rd and 4th ch sps, Sl st in next sc, Sl st in next sc,* repeat * to * 2 x's to form a Cross, fasten off, weave ends.

Make 2,

Line up 2 pcs and TOP Sl st together;

(2 Sl st on short side, Ch 1, 1 Sl st on end, Ch 1, 2 on side, Sl St in center) for short sides, (3 Sl st on long side, Ch 1, 1 Sl st on end , 3 Sl st on side, Sl st in middle)

Here at Doily Designs, we have not seen this used anywhere else, and having used it quite a bit on edges lately, I have decided to give this stitch combo a name, and call it the Riffle Edge.

Riffle edge looks best with contrasting colors.

This stitch combo is so simple, and gives an interesting look and texture to an otherwise simple, plain edge. Americana Coaster Pattern seen below.

The Riffle Edge stitch combo works nicely on projects both large and small. Like on the Valentine's Day Heart Coaster seen below.

Lately, this has been a favorite edge to use on anything from blankets, doilies, coasters, and more.

This simple, but interesting combo gives a little something extra to the look and feel of a crochet edge.
