Crochet Fails
Cleaning out my yarn, I have come across quite a few of my crochet fails. Someone besides me may find these humorous, or maybe even inspirational. 😅
Pony Bead Belt was an epic FAIL. Similar to what I was going for, but just no. Maybe for bellydance, or a costume of some sort. 🤔 But this one I may have dared to wear once since 2010.
Basically a very FAILED project.
Next is my first Halloween pouch. This wasn't so much of a fail, as it was just not pattern worthy.
Another not so much a fail, as just kind of funny to see the progression of my crochet, and patterns.
Old vs New Water Bottle Tote 😅
I kind of like the first one, but not so much the strap. The second one has the first blown away with the awesome strap. It is my go to strap pattern. ;)The first water bottle holder can not be counted as a fail for the fact that I used it for a few years. I strived for many years to make a better water bottle pattern, with many fails. The second Water Bottle Tote pattern definitely did not fail, and I have made many, including the pattern for sale on Etsy.
Recently, I added my free Chunky Scarf pattern on the blog, which was where I began using pony beads with crochet.
Back then, for many years I had wanted to add bead work to my crochet, but all the bead holes were too tiny for the yarn or tapestry needles, accept for pony beads, which at the time, did not have quite the look that I was after.
Later they come out with some metallic and clear pony beads that I had found later, and they were acceptable for my use, so I tried them. Other than a few projects to experiment, like the belt, I have not used them much. I did use them on my Chunky Scarves. (Click Here to find the free Chunky Scarf pattern on my blog.)
Crocheting with Pony Beads
Pony beads work great with crochet, for the large holes that yarn easily feeds thru.

Back in 2001, I added pony beads, tied randomly to the fringe for a couple of my scarves, how 90's of me 😅
While crocheting in my free time, I was learning new stitches from a stitch dictionary, and wanted a scarf. I got a little carried away with the soft plushy yarn, and before I knew it, the scarf was huge! I loved it, and made myself more, gifting some to others, and we still wear our chunky scarves to this day. I was so excited to finish this one in time to wear it while holding a balloon in the Annual Chuy's Children Giving to Children, Thanksgiving Parade, in Austin, Texas, it was the perfect warmth needed for that chilly, Fall morning walk.

Autumn brought a brief cold front, then quickly went back up to 90 degrees, but at a cool 72 degrees inside, wearing my WRIST SCARF around the house is feeling quite nice.
The rest of me is staying cool, while my wrist is warm, like a wrist warmer, but not as stretchy, with a fun scarf look.
Unlike the wrist warmers that stretch on, the wrist scarf loops over itself, not actually tying, and hangs for decorative purpose.
Suffering from carpel tunnels syndrome, my left wrist is constantly giving me pains, and the extra warmth and support of the wrist scarf feels fabulous! Not to mention the softness of the bamboo yarn against my skin feels wonderful. I have been wearing mine for days, and the hanging yarn surprisingly does NOT get in the way at all, except for water endeavors.
After all, here in Texas, we don't see enough cold to need more than a tiny scarf 😅
These were originally, and honestly, my Dog Scarf from 2011. I found a few left over from my 'Doggy Lovies' days, and this one, made of bamboo yarn, was too nice to go to waste. Trying it on, I liked it so much that I haven't wanted to take it off for days.
Below is a photo of my 1st furry scarf customer, wearing his Scarf.
Wrist Scarf / Dog Scarf Crochet Pattern

Skill: Easy
Hook: G (4-4.25 mm)
Yarn: Small amount of worsted weight, size 4 yarn
Designer used a bamboo yarn by Hobby Lobby that was discontinued, but was replaced by
a new fabulous Hobby Lobby bamboo.
Stitch Key
BegDc: Beginning Double Crochet
Ch: Chain
Dc: Double Crochet
Flo: Front Loop Only
lp: Loop
Sc: Single Crochet
Sl st: Slip Stitch
Sp: Space
St: Stitch
Special Stitches
BegDc: Sc in st, ScFlo in sc just made = Dc (here for more on begdc st)
Begin
Ch 7
BegDc in 2nd ch sp from hook, Dc in remaining 5 ch sps, turn. (6 Dc)
BegDc in same sp as turning sp, Dc in remaining 5 ch sps, turn. (6 Dc)
Repeat last row for 52 more rows, for a total of 54 Rows, or for desired length, fasten off,
Add fringe;
Cut 20, 4 inch strands,
On each end of your scarf, loop 2 strands together in; first, last, and 3 middle sps, spreading evenly for your fringe. Cut evenly across.
I find 5 works better than 6, as 6 gets too full.
For the Dog Scarf, I would add a loop on the back, so you did not have to actually even fold it on its self or tie it.
To make a loop,
At about 1/3 from one end,
Join same color yarn with Post Sl st, Ch 10,
Join without stretching (laying flat) with Post Sl st to a dc about 5 sts up,
Fasten off, weave ends.
This loop can then be used to feed the other end thru, to give a break away dog scarf.
To wear as Wrist Scarf;
Wrap 2 x's around your wrist, feed one end thru the folds, hold one end with the hand it is wrapped around, and use other hand to pull the other end, and tighten. With this tightened, yarns like bamboo will stay put with no knot.

Funny story.
Back when I wrote this simple pattern, trying to make and sell my own designs, and just getting started in 2011, there was one other lady that I had found on the internet making Dog Scarves, at the time.
She was in California, and I was so curious how she made hers. I was going to order one, but she had this deal, that if you sent $5, she would make you what you got. I found this fabulous, and quickly sent her my $5. A few weeks later, I received an envelope, I excitedly opened it, and inside was the coolest small scarf! It was made of this fantastic variegated brown suede like material, and was made in several long rows, unlike mine, above. It was also quite a bit bigger than mine.
