Crochet Signature?

Paintings have signatures right, so why not crochet art?

Being the worlds worst about signing my art when it is done, makes it kind of funny that I thought that it was a good idea to sign crochet. 

Every once in a I'll remember to sign something that is near and dear, and while I was finishing up the Texas Pillowcase, I could not resist the urge and attempt to make a CROCHETED SIGNATURE 😅

So why isn't crochet signed? Maybe it is because it is pretty difficult to embroider on crochet, and there are several easier ways to leave your mark. 

It looks like the crochet signature will take a little more planning and practice, but I like the idea.

Patches the Patriotic Owl Phone Pal crochet pattern, has some new friends, Rainbow Patches, and Watermelon Phone Pal, made in fun colors. 

All Phone Pal's are made using the same pattern, done in different colors, and different themes, with a few different added accents that are included in the pattern. Pattern also includes a few different size eyes to choose from, as well as several charms.

This is Patches 3rd year being my trusty, and favorite Phone Pal, but he has a lot of patriotism for everyday, and so I made Patches some new friends.

Summer Santa

Did someone say Santa?

Having some summer fun, and in the Christmas spirit, Mr and Mrs Claus visited Barton Springs to take a refreshing dip in the cool spring fed water. 

Mrs Claus, informed us that they were at Zilker to check on things before this years Zilker Trail of Lights, and that they will be back on auditorium shores for the upcoming 4th of July, Star Spangled Fest!

What a special visit for folks at Barton Springs today, from none other than Mr and Mrs Santa Claus, sporting their Trail of Lights gear, and looking fabulous in their summer attire.

😎🎅🌴

Barton Springs is a great place to cool off, and maybe meet a few celebrities. The infamously cold, crisp water of Barton Spring pool, are probably just what Santa needed for this hot summer day, to give him some of that chilly North Pole freeze, right in the middle of downtown Austin.

If you are in Austin, try and stop by Zilker, and Barton Springs pool, a favorite spot of many locals. Even if you don't take a dip in the huge spring fed pool, there is still lots to do. You can ride the train around the park, or walk the many trails, picnic and bbq while you catch a live event on outdoor stages. You can ride the fire engine on the playground, kayak, frisbee, and visit the Zilker Botanical Garden, just down the road. Around Christmas time, don't miss Zilker Trail of Lights, hosting Mr and Mrs Claus all through the Christmas Season. If you're nice this year, maybe you can meet Mr and Mrs Claus and get a photograph with them. 

It really is one of the coolest places in Austin to have your picture taken with Santa. 😎

Zilker ~ great place to relax, and take a swim, and maybe run into people.  I once met Charley Sexton there while swimming, and got to see Stevie Ray Vaughn live on auditorium shores. You just never know who you might see.... but it will for sure be Mr and Mrs Claus during the  Zilker Trail of Lights, so stay on the nice list!

Even in this hot summer weather, you might find me sporting my wrist warmers, especially  when my carpal tunnels syndrome acts up. They are just the right weight and size for everyday wear to keep my wrists feeling a little more support and warmth.  Why not make them a little more seasonal, and decorate them with some flowers. Of course, I like my browns, and the color combo is right up my alley, but these could be done in any combination of colors, different size flowers, or several flowers, for whatever look that you are after. 🌼

Happy with the results, I can't wait for cooler weather, so I can wear them all the time. 😅

Crochet Join with Single Crochet

There are a few new to me stitches that I have been using lately that have me blown away at their ease and effectiveness.

One of these new stitches is the BegSc or Sc Join. I will post how to do it, in case it is new to others as well. If you know this stitch, and/or what it is called in patterns, please share. Some of you may have already been doing this for years, others, like me may have never heard of joining with NO Slip Stitch, with exception of the no knot join, also fairly new to me.

To do BegSc/ScJoin, you start like you are doing a Sl st, with a loop knotted on your hook, insert hook where you want to attach it, YO, pull thru 2 loops on the hook = Sc made, with no slip stitch.  Note that it helps to keep the yarn loops loose a little to pull thru, as well as holding the tail, and after you have made your stitch, you can pull it tighter, as needed.

From now on, when I am able, I just make the BegSc, no slip stitch. This BegSc works just doing your Sc, which can be your stitch, or the Sc can be expanded to make a Hdc, Dc, Tr, and works very nicely with the Naztazia's BegDc/Tr beginning stitch, previously mentioned here on Doily Designs.

Wow, so simple. How did I not think of or find this sooner?   I guess sometimes we can get stuck in our ways and believe that they are the only ways. 😂  

I have attempted to make you guys a video with the BegSc. Hopefully with practice the videos will get better. 😅
